Knitting 101 - Basics

Description: Knitting is a rich craft with a wealth of stitches, patterns, and yarns you can use to make clothing, toys, and gifts. Start your knitting adventure by learning the basics stitches, tools, and practices that will produce professional results.
Prerequisite Skills: None
Key Techniques Taught:
- A traditional cast on (puts stitches on your needle)
- How to make a knit stitch
- How to make a purl stitch
- How to bind off (lock the stitches and cut your yarn)
- Basic yarn overview
- Basic tools (needles, markers, measuring tools, etc.)
- How to “read” your stitches (what stitch did I just do, is it done correctly, is my tension consistent, did I drop a stitch, did I make an additional stitch by mistake?
- How to fix “mistakes”
Materials:
- One skein of worsted weight yarn in a light solid color, one set of size 8 needles, yarn needle, measuring tape, markers, size G crochet hook, and scissors.
Class Size: Maximum of six students.
Cost: $30.00 for six hours of instruction
