Mosaic Knitting 101

Mosaic knitting may be the most unknown form of colorwork and is perfect for beginners who are attempting colorwork for the first time. If you've worked stripes in two colors, you can work mosaic knitting. Mosaic patterns are created by slipping stitches from the stripe below without working them. We will be knitting (flat) a Mosaic Scarf. The class will consist of:

If you've worked stripes in two colors, you can work mosaic knitting. Mosaic patterns are created by slipping stitches from the stripe below without working them. We will be knitting (flat) a Mosaic Scarf. The class will consist of:
- Class 1: The Mosaic knitting technique will be reviewed, and we will knit practice swatches to determine which design to use with your scarf pattern. Yarns will be reviewed as well to help in choosing for your project.
- Class 2: The Mosaic Scarf pattern will be reviewed. We will begin knitting your chosen design. This class will provide you with all the skills needed to take your project home for completion.
- Class 3: This 3rd class is optional and offers an opportunity to ask questions, receive assistance on your project. Instructions will be available for those wanting to knit in the round.
Prerequisite Skills: Basic knitting skills (knit & purl, increase, decrease, casting on, binding off)
Key Techniques Taught:
- Provisional Cast on (optional)
- Creating border edging
- Mosaic technique
- Using a chart
- Stretchy bind off (optional)
Materials:
- Yarn: 1 skein Cascades Yarns 220 Superwash WAVE (worsted) AND 1 skein Cascades Yarns 220 Superwash Solid (worsted)
- Needles: # 8 Knitting Needle (I like using approx. 30” circular needle)
- Markers: 3
- Stitch Counter: (optional)
Class Size: Maximum of six students.
Cost: $25 for 3 sessions, 6 hours total of instruction (last class optional)
