Entrelac Knitting
Norwegian knit designers–and sisters–Heidi Eikeland and Mette Hovden discovered entrelac by chance, without even knowing what the technique was called. It was only after searching long and hard for more patterns that included the textured blocks that they realized they'd happened upon an entry in Norway's official “red list” of endangered handcrafts: a traditional design element so rarely worked in contemporary patterns that knowledge of it had been deemed at risk of dying out.
The solution was to design more patterns themselves, resulting in this collection of 40 projects that capture the exceptional and distinctive “woven” look of entrelac, including both striking multi-color designs and elegant single-color patterns. Let Heidi and Mette introduce you to entrelac as a technique:
• Step-by-step instructions for how to work it the traditional Norwegian way.
• Tips and tricks for shaping, transitioning from entrelac to stockinette and back again.
• Dozens of eye-catching garments and accessories for men and women, children and adults—hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters, and more.
• Stunning embellishments for yokes, cuffs, and anywhere your needles take you
