Description: In order to shape your knitting and create decorative stitch patterns, you will need to know how to increase and decrease using a variety of techniques. In this class you will learn three basic and commonly used ways to make increases and decreases. You will also learn how to make a very stretch cast on and bind off.
Prerequisite Skills: Basic knitting skills (cast-on, bind-off, knit, and purl)
Key Techniques Taught:
- Elastic cast on
- Three methods for increasing stitches (wfb=work front and back, M1r=make one right, and M1l=make one left.
- Three methods for decreasing (k2tog=knit two together, k2tbl=knit two together through the back loops, and ssk=slip, slip, knit together)
- Elastic bind off
- Yarn fibers - their properties and best uses
- Advanced tools (circular, double pointed, and interchangeable needles, needle gauges, specialty markers, pattern tape, etc.)
- Making and measuring a swatch
Materials:
- One skein of worsted weight yarn in a light color, one set of size 8 needles, yarn needle, measuring tape, size L crochet hook and scissors.
